The History...
I began my incursion in the "underground" music scene true Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy and others Gothic-Alternatifve bands from the 80's - 90's. I started going out in clubs in 95. After attending a couple nights at The Loft (back when they had this big gothic night, yes Loft was not always about dance music). AS i was still under aged at the time, i had to resign myself to go to Sphinx, where age policy was more flexible. So, armed with makeup and spray net (The Cure look), I started going out in the "strange" underground gothic scene of Montreal (Sphinx, Jungle, Ezra, Purple Haze aka Saphir and others..)
It's during that time that I met Stephane Paradis aka Skull Produkt. Following his almost monthly moving nights (Jungle to Purple Haze to Pharao's Tomb to Purple Haze to Back Street to Ezra and finally to Studio), my love for music grew and my personal CD collection of with it. In 97, I had my first dj experience (had no dj name back then), a special Sisters of Mercy tribute night at Purple Haze. Following this experience, I started guest dj-ing small sets on Skull Produkt nights from time to time, for fun.
Then came the "blue" period (where I switched from a gothic look to a more cyber one, with my blue hair), When i discovered electronic music, to be more precise, the industrial music. Starting with the basics, Front 242, Front Line Assembly and others, slowly my true music taste was starting to form. It's in 99 that I officially became "dj", Dj Kaotik was born. Dj-ing on a weekly basis with dj Shatten (Shadow, Skull, Engelke etc...) at Studio for more than one year, at the Elektro-Art night, We achieved to build a new concept of club nights, where old style gothic music would blend in with the new school industrial / EBM music.
After this year on the Elektro-Art project, I started focusing my energies on a new project. Going out at the Krashtess nights of Dj Achtung at Foufounes Electriques, I had the chance (thanks to you Sylvain St-Jean aka dj Achtung) to practice and refine my dj skills while playing at Foufounes Electriques. I had my big start during the Front Line Assembly show in 99 as guest dj along dj Hellraver (wow, what a start !). During the year 2000, I guest dj-ed for different shows at Foufounes Electriques and even guest dj-ed in Quebec city, at Fourmi Atomik.
At the end of 2000, a new project was offered to me. With Dj Vulcain we started a new night; Metachrome nights at Sphinx. This new event brought a new concept in Montreal, with a mix of Gothic, New-Wave and Industrial music, we achieved to build the strongest monthly event back then. With an crowd of more than 200 people, I had the chance to play in what became a "classic" night in Montreal gothic / industrial scene. At the end of 2001, after a move to Saphir, we decide that the Metachrome project had to end.
In 2002, after a small break to finish my studies, I had an urgent need to restart something in the Montreal underground scene. Dj Achtung had just left the Foufounes Electriques for personal reasons, so with his help, I started a new night there, the Replikant / Elysium project. With my new production team, KAO Production, I tried to offer a completely new product to Montreal. We gathered all of our energies in bringing back big shows to Montreal. Putting time and efforts, we achieved to regive this city it's place in the North American scene. With crowds of more than 500 people (Covenant - Sony records artist) we shown that Montreal was still alive and kicking.
At the end of 2003, I decided to change the format of the Replikant nights. To make it more accessible, a new day and bar was chosen to continue the evolution of the Replikant project. This new night, Replikant V2.0 at Club Saphir, gave the chance to add more “permanent” dj's to the already strong KAO Production team. I was able to gave Montreal the only weekly industrial/EBM nights, with live shows, release parties and other special events.
In 2005 Dj Kaotik had to end the Replikant V2.0 night at Club Saphir, mainly because of differences with the management on what direction the night should take. Still active in the Montreal scene, going to different industrial / noize events, dj Kaotik is still proud to give the best of dark electronic music to Montreal.
The next step was a collaboration with dj LVX on the AMP nights alongside dj Arketype. For more than 2 years, this night had for purpose of bringing new sounds to Montreal. Starting at the Velvet Club and moving to the Katacombes bar, this night is still alive through special events.
With my love of music, I decided to start in 2008 what quickly became a full time job and one of the biggest festivals of electro-industrial music in North America; the Kinetik Festival.
