Why
Dj Nachtengel and why Cite
Souterraine? First of all, Nachtengel means "Night
Angel" in German. It is also a derivative of my family
name which is Nightingale and I also associate "Nachtengel"
to a dear friend of mine who used to call me that...
Cite Souterraine saw the moonlight, (hey this show plays
after midnight after all), five years ago in the autumn
season. Since its debut, Cite Souterraine adopted many
kinds of musical tendencies to reflect the image of an
ever growing city. It passed from alternative music to
techno music to hardcore music to finally come to a stop
and rest on EBM music. In those years a number of distinguished
guest djs and musical personalities came to visit Cite
Souterraine and leave their impressions on the air. Just
to name a few, I received Mr.Black, Headscan, Scrape,
WesternDream, Metha Mean, MD from Geska Records, The Varia
2002 Staff and many more guests who all contributed to
the eclectic, alternative scene. Cite Souterraine has
also interviewed recently some major bands coming to Montreal
through the blessing of KAO Productions. To have more

Now a little bit about me. Just like Kaotik, I've also
lived on the South Shore, in St-Hubert. In fact, I'd meet
Mr.Kaotik there before he was out in the bar scene in
Montreal. Of course when I moved to Montreal it was easier
for him and his girlfriend at the time to go out all night
because he would come and crash at my place afterwards...
I was around when the Vampire Lounge existed; when the
Loft was doing it's Goth night; when we would have to
line up to enter the Backstreet; when The Lizard was a
cool place to hang out and when the Pharoh's Tomb was
the place to be. I could also name the Purple Haze (Aka
The Saphir), The Fetish Cafe, The Sphinx and many more
small places like The Ezra, The Redemption and The Crash
who also played the kind of music I liked to hear on the
weekends. Now all those bars have given way to the Saphir
and of course, The Foufs to entertain us on the weekend
with the latest gothic, EBM, synthpop and new wave music.
My first live dj experience outside my many years in the
radio industry came last year for Varia 2002 when I was
guest dj there to host the evening. Then in January 2003
came the KAO Production experience which is still going
on. I could qualify my mix of music as being an abrasive,
destructive, sinful symphony of nocturnal noise made for
the black masses in search of something beyond than just
plain VNVish sound.
Cite Souterraine is live each Wednesday from 0h30am
to 2h00am on 102.3FM or via Real Player on the Cite
Souterraine website.
